How often should uptime checks run?

Every one to two minutes is common and a sensible default. Shorter intervals catch an outage sooner and cost more. Longer ones are cheaper and leave a bigger gap before you find out. Whatever the interval, require a few failures in a row before alerting, so one failed check doesn't page anyone.
