What is an on-call rotation?

An on-call rotation is a schedule where team members take turns responding to alerts, so one person isn't covering every night. It hands over on a fixed cadence, often weekly, and allows one-off overrides for swaps and time off. Alerts go to whoever is on call at that moment.
